Let’s Drop a beat In 48 Hours! Beat Drop Challenge!🪱!
Are you ready for the musical chaos of skeletons farting into a bathtub! You’re in luck!
To help share the joy and bring awareness to the great community and creativity at Education video media arts centre(Ed video) we are bringing more goofy music to the world! Ed video has a big place in my heart, empowering many artist to work in media arts with equipment and knowledge to bring their ideas to life! It’s time to share that joy with more people and support nonprofits like Education video media arts centre to keep on supporting the arts and artists.
This time Basil reined me in so music themes are more like “electric avocado” and not “guacamole icing” as a music prompt! After a bit of testing to get a better understanding and two musical wonders of madness latter, it’s time to call on you to be challenged with making more goofy and experimental music!
The Two Part Challenge

Inspired by the 48 hour film challenges at Education video media arts centre(Ed video), this improve exploration is a way to bring back some community fun!
Part 1: (Music)
You get 48 hours to create a song based on a randomized prompt! Your song must make use of one audio sampling of something not yet music(talking, a sound effect, foley sounds) sourced from recording something for yourself, from your video collection, or something uploaded to youtube within the 48 hours. By the end of the 48 hours you will have your entire song completed and mixed or mastered to completion!
Part 2: (Video)
This part is now time for the visual elements where you then have two weeks to create a music video for your song! Not everyone is going to draw all the art and film a big musical number so calm your fears you can have some rest. You can work with other people or participants to create your music videos, or even offer your song up to your community and challenge them to make a music video. If you want to offer up your song to everyone free rein to create a music video from your song and see what they create, indicate so on the registration. You get to choose what video you wish to share as the finished project and there will be a separate collection for fan projects to be shared for everyone to see those too! Remember to make an album cover or follow the template below. The design is up to you; keep it simple use your profile picture and branding or design something new!

When?
The open call for participants begins February to allow for everyone to plan ahead and schedule for the challenge. The 48 hour battle starts March 8th to the end of day March 9th(weekend NA timezones). International timezones will be considered when finalizing the start and end times. You may propose an alternate 48 Hour period if you are unavailable at that time in the registration form.
Why 1 and Why 2?
You’ll never learn unless you practice the skill you want to learn! I’ve basically never done this before and while somewhat scuffed I’ve already learned so much. I refuse to take things easy and the singing audio is from me fully singing while dancing dressed as a pirate in real time(it took 3 hours to get the lyrics right so the timing fell apart ooof). You learn so much embracing the absurd and I’ll happily love campy songs and singing the Globglogabgalab!
Education video media arts centre, is the reason I went back to media arts and gained the knowledge that laid the foundation for becoming a Vtuber. They were the people that helped me create fake ears for a homemade ASMR microphone, and found solutions to various other hiccups in my projects. I want to do my part to share the love and support for Ed video and if you would like to help support them and learn more about them check out their campaign:
How or Where?
To Review the music side of the challenge: this is similar to a 48 hour film challenge, something normally done by moving about to film and collect your footage for production. That is not always very feasible, so you are free to go and record something, sample from your own collections of recordings or source from something uploaded on youtube during the 48 hour challenge.

You get to work wherever you are comfortable and share your project to wherever you want it’s yours. We ask that you share the link to wherever you have uploaded it publicly so everyone can see the finished projects on the 29th of March. The song audio is required to confirm the completion of the challenge and make sure the song is the same for the music video and create a teaser showcase of the songs for the music video release day! The teaser compilation will be shared with everyone so we can all get hyped for the reveal!

The challenge will be showcased with a hashtag and a directory page sharing links to all the final pieces and fan projects so we can all enjoy the amazing projects!
Rules
- Simply, there is no room for hate speech, harassment, discrimination, racism, inciting violence, or any form of bad attitude and ill will.
- You can swear, you can be somewhat vulgar, so long as you are not antagonizing and attacking or down putting others. If it is not in the spirit of fun and is instead just mean then make something else.
- List your sources and fill out your credits properly namely, what you sampled and who helped with the project
- Ai policy: you can use vo-coding or speech synthesizers so long as it is not to impersonate someone else’s likeness and is used to in good faith. Empowerment is the goal, so if you can create your song your way with vocaliod Hatsune Miku then that’s cool. If you want a singer and you do not sing yourself you can always chat up some local vocalists, or friends and see if they want to join in. What is not allowed is using ai to mimic the voice of a public figure or pop culture character for your song. There will be a way to disclose if you are not the vocalist from your song and credit the singer or vocal software(this goes in the credits section).
- Follow TOS for platforms when sharing your song and video
Disclaimer
I’m not a lawyer, music licensing is often messy and it is good to air on the side of caution. You are responsible for your creations and interactions for use of sampling. The purpose of the sampling is not to remix songs that already exist, instead the purpose is to take audio elements that are not music and create music from it. Transformation is the key, fair use relates to education, artistic and critique purposes and even then it can be difficult. You are solely responsible for your song and have all authority over what you wish to do or how you wish to share it. You should test things before uploading to make sure you do not have any issues in this area to the best of your ability.
*This clarification is from experience now as even running tests to find there is seemingly nothing wrong with a song that Basil and I made I was unsuccessful in fighting a claim parody is a fight even when you move leaps away especially in music. Even though I did testing to see what was the issue due to the peculiar concept of the claim and found that it should not be an issue, I was stuck in a bind(can’t fight a robot) challenging became not worth the risk for me.
Prize? The End?
This is not a challenge designed to have an overall winner, nor a fixed prize from the event. If you would like I have a little commemorative button or artwork digital or physical(we got you Vtuber’s and faceless creators) for you. At the end of this challenge you will have been on quite the adventure, creating a musically adventurous song, packaged with a music video and an album cover! On the 29th there will be a drop in stream where you can talk about your creation and celebrate and chat with everyone!
